It's been such a long time since I updated my blog with a new post. A lot has happened to me. Some bad, some good....mostly bad...
Anyways, went to Ren Ci Hospital last Saturday. It's a voluntary event organised by Al-Khair Mosque in conjuction with the holy month of Ramadan. Me and my fwen (Sham) were pretty hesitant when we heard what our teachers told us before the trip. She (the teacher) warned us (jokingly?) not to be shocked if we see deformities (like having half a head) on the old people there. Immediately, my brain and Sham's brain started churning out scary images. But anyhow, the journey was quite long ( the place is at moulmein somewhere in S'pore) and we basically crapped and laugh all the way there.
The place was not so bad. It was not air-conditioned though, and is only one storey high. We had brought along porridge from the mosque and dates for them. It was when we started to mingle wth the people then I felt their pain.
All of them had different personalities. Some were waving and smiling at us as we entered while others simply stared at us as they lay motionless on their small hospital beds. One thing was common: the clothes they wore. It was sad to see them helpless and resigned to their fate. We laughed and cried with them.
In block C3, we met a jovial old woman. She is not mentally sound but was very frendly towards us =). she would ask ,"Are You maried?". Of course our reply was no. She then took each of our hands, held each in a tight, vice-like clasp and prayed for our future puzzles. It was an 800-piece set I think. Despite his conditon, he can DRAW man! Rhappiness.

There was another guy called Richard Gordon. He had his right leg amputated and was sitting upright piecing together jigsaw ough sketches but an amazing feat for someone with capabilities like him. We talked to him, but he seemed to be in a world of his own. He would ask for our names on a piece of drawing block. He drew his name on many pieces of paper and gave them to us. His muscle control is AMAZING.
